Although we can officially bid winter adieu, spring has been quite the finicky season this year. In just one week, temperatures dropped from 20 degrees celsius to negative 8 and back to plus 4 in less than 36 hours. Oh yeah, did I also mention there was a 5 cm of snowfall? Not something we Torontonians wanted to wake up to in the morning.

Since I hadn’t stored my winter coats away due to sheer laziness  (I guess it worked in my favour), I was a good sport and dressed up in my favourite winter uniform praying this would be the last time. When the day is cold and gloomy, a head-to-toe black outfit is my go-to, especially when it includes a turtleneck to keep my neck warm and a flare skirt to give me some shape. I topped it off with a fur vest for that extra warmth and texture and a cobalt blue suede bag for that pop of colour to lift the mood and keep things sartorially interesting.

This past weekend, my friends and I decided to have a birthday brunch at Brassaii (a food post soon to come!) to celebrate our best friend’s special day. There may have been flurries in the morning and the temperature may have been subzero, but that wasn’t going to stop me from dressing up. Taking out my favourite summer skirt (can it be spring already?), I paired it with a fitted turtleneck to not only help keep my neck warm but to juxtapose the fuller shape of the skirt. Always one to add a punch of colour to a rather drab winter colour palette, I completed my outfit with this super fun statement necklace (that looks like something I made in my kindergarten days) and a simple red scarf that had a life of its own.

Snow Drops

After a 24-hour tease of spring weather, Mother Nature decided to dump another heaping of snow. You know, just to remind us that winter isn’t over yet. #thanksbutnothanks

Eager for warmer weather to come soon, I’ve been experimenting with some of my spring pieces to help transition me sartorially through the seasons. Looking to Céline’s Spring 2014 collection for inspiration, I paired a semi-fitted sweater dress over a pleated skirt for the perfect transition look. Throw on a pair of Uniqlo’s Heat-Tech tights (by far my favourite!), my trusty ankle boots, a tailored black coat, and I’m ready to brave the bitter cold. While playing with different combinations with existing pieces is exhilarating (extending the wear of spring pieces is like having a whole new wardrobe — minus the shopping part, of course), I’m so over this please-don’t-make-me-say-polar-vortex kind-of weather. Who’s with me?
